Worldliness

Sunday, October 16, 2011

As you all know, we live in a sinful world. We live in the world, we want to be like the world, we want everything that has to do with the world! Even if we are Christians, we also have the sinful nature, and we ALL have the sinfulness of the world. Even those of us who are Christians, have it. Jesus says in John 1:10, "He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know him." That is a sad fact, but it is SO true! Obviously, though, NONE of us are perfect. Nor will we ever be! But, what would the world be like if we WERE perfect and everything was just fine and dandy, never bad, never worldly? It may not be as interesting. But because we do have a sinful nature, and live in a sinful world, it is VERY hard not to be worldly! It's hard not to want to fit in with the crowd. It's hard not to see girls who wear revealing clothes and get all the attention, to want to wear those same clothes! It's hard trying not to think worldly thoughts..It's hard not to want to watch those worldly shows, It's hard to try to not be part of the "in" crowd. It's the hardest thing to try to become different than worldly!

Jesus says in 1 John 2:15-17, "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life- is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever." So, we are the opposite of this! We want to do everything with the world and we want to be like the world. But at the same time, we want to be as far away from the world as possible. Ephesians 4:22-24 says, "to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness." It is SO true! We need to put off our old selves and be renewed, put on our new self, created in the likeness of God in righteousness and holiness!! :)

When our friends are wearing the fancy expensive clothing, or watching those certain shows, and going out to R rated movies, it's hard not to want to do that, too, because it seems normal to do it...you see it so much! When your parents tell you not to wear certain clothes or watch certain TV shows or movies, then you probably should not. There's a reason they tell you not to do things! It causes more worldliness in your life. You want to be as far away from worldliness as you can be! But, that's not always easy. I know it's not, because I struggle with wanting to be like the world everyday, too! I want to wear those clothes, and watch those shows and movies, but I've learned that it's really not important to try to fit in with them.

It's better to be your OWN person, created in the likeness of God! It's better to be hated for the person that you are, then be loved for the person that you aren't. Don't pretend to do things to be part of the "in" crowd. It shouldn't be a goal to be the most popular person in school. It shouldn't matter if you're an outcast, either. It SHOULD matter the way you go about things in the world, and if you are honoring God or not! We should strive to be like Christ! Of course we will never be at the top of the chain like God, but we could very well strive to be!! Trying to be of the world is NOT worth it.. Trying to do things like the world will only separate you from God.

Let's show other people that being worldly is not a great way to live! Let's show them that we are godly Christian people, and lead them into TOTAL righteousness and holiness and after the likeness of God! :) But remember, to stay close as close to Jesus as you can, and as FAR away as you can from worldliness!

Love

Saturday, October 15, 2011

When I hear that word, so many things come to mind. The love for food, clothing, or people. It's such an overused word anymore, that no one really knows the right way to use it. I don't think I've gone one day in my life that I haven't heard someone say, "I love you." But, when they say it, do they think about what it means or is it just a saying that comes off the top of their head?

When you say that you love someone, it is something you can't ever take back. Because, you either love someone or you don't. It shouldn't be "I love you now" and then "I don't think I love you anymore." That doesn't seem to make sense to me. It's either a yes or no. As Jesus Christ quotes in his word, Matthew 5:37-"But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one."

There are ways to love that Jesus describes and wants us to strive to do. 1 Corinthians 13:1-7 states,
"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails."
Basically, without love, you don't have ANYTHING!

Isn't that the most perfect kind of love? I really think so! Jesus loves us SO much, he gave up his life for us.
John 15:13- "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends." He calls us his friends, and layed down his life for our sins. He died so we could live! That's the most perfect kind of love that I could ever think of.... Jesus is LOVE.

The way I think you can tell if you really love someone is if you are everything according to the verses in 1 Corinthians 13 (which is pretty hard to be, since we aren't perfect), and if you are willing to lay down your life for a friend, family member, or someone who you happen to be close with. There are more than a couple of people I can think of that I love, that I would be willing to lay my life down for. I haven't told them this, but I am so very willing to lay my life down for them.

I strive, everyday, to practice the love of Christ to those around me, because love is one of the greatest gifts you could ever receive! It is one of the greatest gifts that I have ever received and I still don't know if I could ever repay some people back for their love for me! It is amazing that God has put amazing people in my life, because I have learned to love them all. But if I learn more about love and practice this love everyday, then I would be MUCH better off!

Always remember that God is LOVE, and that you can't lay down your life for objects in your life. But you CAN love people, and you can show them about love throughout your life, because of JESUS! He gives love, but he also takes away. Always remember that I love you... but more importantly that, JESUS LOVES YOU. :)

God's Plan

Friday, October 14, 2011

Ever since I was little, people have asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. I’ve always had an answer for them. But, my answer always seems to change. I’m sure my answer has changed five times since I was five years old. For the last couple years, I've had friends who have graduated and told me that they didn't necessarily have a plan and that they'd play it by ear. Although, I'm only halfway through high school, I’ve really pondered what I’ve wanted to do, and it’s been clear to me for awhile. I know as soon as I graduate, I would to become a photographer, or counselor & work with kids that have disabilities. Then, settle down, get married, and start a family. But, maybe my plans are not God’s plans. My *life* verse explains this,

Jeremiah 29:11, "Foknow the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I love this verse SO much, because its a reminder that God DOES have a plan, not just for me, but for everyone in the world! His plan won't involve hurting us in any way, but it will involve us to have faith & trust in him. I probably won't know for awhile about what his plan is for me, but that's okay. I don't need to know his plan, because life's just a great, fantastic mystery, that I will have to figure out.. For right now, all I can do is TRUST him. :)

Keep in mind that what YOU have in mind, might not be something that GOD has for you. You can keep your options open, but God ultimately decides what he wants you to do in life. There's nothing wrong with making goals! In fact, that's something you should do! But, make sure that if things don't go your way, you just TRUST in the Lord with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind!

I understand that trying to trust God is SUPER hard, but it's worth trying! Don't ever give up! :) Don't let it  get you down. You'll find your place someday, even if it takes YEARS to figure it out!

God WILL reveal HIS plan for you... you've just got to wait, pray, and think about what your abilities are that God gave you. He knows what he wants you to do, you've just got to listen to him. Although, sometimes, you might not want to.. But, if you let him, he will reveal some amazing things to you! He wants you to honor him with what you do, and it may not be clear right now at this point in your life, but.. one day, it will be. :)
