My Resolutions for 2018

Friday, December 22, 2017

It's so hard to believe that Christmas & New Years are almost here again. When I look back at 2017, I think about how much I've grown as a person. This was the most painful yet biggest growing year. I have been through so many trials. I had to lose people in my life to gain perspective. I had to hurt in order to grow. There are things that I wanted to improve on this year and this list is just a few of those things:

1) MONEY. My biggest improvement for 2017 has been saving my money. I am a big spender, whether I'd like to admit it or not. I love to buy things; makeup, clothes, shoes, books, etc. It's one of my biggest struggles, especially when I'm stressed out or depressed. However, my biggest strength out of this is saying "No" to myself. I succeeded some, I failed some. But I know that I can be better and I'm going to be better. I'm going to make myself better.

2) WEIGHT LOSS. Another milestone is that I started losing weight instead of gaining it. I lost 13 pounds. 13 pounds isn't exactly a big deal, right? Well it is to me. I gained about 60 pounds over the course of a few months, but losing 10-13 in one month was a great deal of effort on my part. It's a constant battle and effort but I know I have improved. I also know I can be better. I can fight the urge to want to eat and I know that I can fight to eat better. I'm hoping that I will be as close as I can to my normal weight by December 2018! My main goal is less fast food, more home-cooked meals!

3) FAMILY. I have never had a great relationship with my family. I would listen to my "friends" over my family when they were trying to give me advice & instruction, and I shouldn't have. I could have a better relationship with my family if I had been willing to listen to them. That was always my downfall. This year, I know I have improved because I now live with them and I don't have as hard a time getting along with them. I had to go through pain to get to this point. I had to move out and screw up (A LOT) to get to this point. That's usually not the right way of doing things, but it's the way I learned it.

4) PLANNING AHEAD. I have been terrible about planning ahead, well just planning anything in general. This year, I was on top of everything and managed to get all of my Christmas shopping done around the first week of December. Normally I think long and hard throughout the month of December looking for gifts, but this year I decided to get everything done early. I've also started using a yearly planner and my phone calendar to keep track of all my events, appointments, etc.

5) ORGANIZATION. I used to be really good about organizing but over the years I've gotten sloppy. One thing I want to improve on in 2018 is to become more organized and less of a hoarder. I kid you not, I have a full box of open house letters because I can't stand the thought of giving them away. I love to read over them when I am discouraged and not feeling motivated to do anything, so I feel the need to keep them. I have boxes full of miscellaneous items because I don't give them away, boxes full of books, boxes full of receipts, etc. So that's one thing I hope to improve.

6) READING. I used to read a lot during high school, especially for fun. I could read for hours into the night and not care about being tired the next day of not. When I got to college, I would stay up for hours reading and trying to learn the best I could. But after I stopped going to college, I stopped reading books entirely. One thing I'd like to improve is my reading. I know it can help with brain development, comprehension, and vocabulary, which I lack.

7) BLOGGING. I have dropped the ball on blogging this year. I haven't written much like I was planning on doing because I haven't really figured out what I wanted to write about. I used to write inspirational posts because those things were issues I had been dealing with during high school, but the only thing I've dealt with is relationships, drama at work, changing jobs, moving a lot, and things of that nature but nothing worth writing in a blog post. But I'd like to change that in 2018. I want to find myself in my writing again. It was something I treasured more than anything else.

8) MY RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. I want to improve my relationship with God in 2018. I've had a rocky two years where I put God on the back burner. The only way I can improve my life is if God is in the center. I want to become a better Christian and better person and the only way to get there is with God. I am content with where I am in my life and I know there is room for improvement, but I can't wait to see the direction that God will take me. I pray that God will help me become a better giver, seek out more opportunities to help others.
